Just wanted to post some pics of the newest Shop Local, Shop Emmaus poster series…and who are those two gorgeous ladies?…oh, wait, they look familiar…THEY ARE US!! Yep, that’s my Mom (Val) and me (Lauren) posing in the gallery, just smiling away. Man, we’re some happy gals!

The Main Street Partners have created a shoppers promotional card for the holidays, and we’re happy to be a part of the many participating businesses.

Here’s how it works:

• It’s FREE! To get started, just pick up a card from the Main Street Partner’s office or any of the businesses…we have a whole bunch if you need ‘em!
• Shop at least 12 businesses on the card, and with each purchase, you will receive a stamp or initial.
• Submit to any of the participants, or drop by the MSP’s office (they have a mail slot!), by December 2nd. You’ll be entered into a drawing for a cash prize, and winners will be announced on December 3rd at the Old Fashioned Christmas Celebration!
• Make sure that your name and phone number are on the back of the card so you may be contacted if you win.
• Don’t worry about the ticket price of your purchase…this promotion is to get people out and about, taking the time to visit at least 12 stores and/or restaurants, and purchasing what you can. It does not have to be expensive to count.
• Have fun! Somehow, I know you’ll have a good time checking out all of the great spots this town has to offer.

Our paper folding event that was planned for this Sunday, February 13th from 11am-2pm will still be taking place.  We will be folding as many cranes as we can in David’s name in order to be donated to the National Crane Project.  Though it will be most appropriate for children ages 7-14, all are welcome.  THIS IS A FREE EVENT…paper and snacks will be provided, but any paper donations would be greatly appreciated.  Our talented origami artisan, Karen Gualtieri, will be here to demonstrate folding for those who are beginners.

Come and join us to learn the Japanese art of paper folding and to pass on cranes of hope to pediatric cancer centers all around the country.  We hope to see you there.

Out of Our Hands will be adjusting our hours starting May 1st to be open every Sunday from 10am-2pm while the Market is going on.  Stop by and browse our new inventory or just to say hello!  We are looking foward to eventually offering some events and mini art projects for youngsters on Sundays…more info on that to come.

Our Sunday hours will be lasting until the end of the year (January 1st, 2011 is when we’ll make the switch back to our winter hours).  We are looking foward to offering more shopping hours to our customers.  We’ll see you soon!

A pysanka (or the plural form pysanky) is an eggshell decorated using a written-wax batik method.  The egg yolk is carefully removed by blowing it out through a small hole in the shell.  Using a stylus or pin-head, the artist “writes” out the design using bees wax and then dyes the tiny areas with many vibrant colors.

These eggs date back to pre-Christian times and were originally decorated with nature symbols to worship the Ukranian sun god and to celebrate rebirth during spring.  With the acceptance of Christianity, the meaning behind Pysanky eggs was changed to celebrate Easter and the rising of Christ.  Typical beeswax designs include flowers, fruit, geometric patterns, and Christian symbols.
