We are so proud to be part of Emmaus! Often we hear how much people enjoy the small-town feel, mostly due to the number of small independently-owned businesses that add to the charm.

Support them this holiday season!

The Main Street Partners have created a shoppers promotional card for the holidays, and we’re happy to be a part of the many participating businesses.

Here’s how it works:

It’s FREE! To get started, just pick up a card from the Main Street Partner’s office or any of the businesses…we have a whole bunch if you need ‘em!

Shop at least 12 businesses on the card, and with each purchase, you will receive a stamp or initial.

Submit to any of the participants, or drop by the MSP’s office (they have a mail slot!), by December 2nd. You’ll be entered into a drawing for a cash prize, and winners will be announced on December 3rd at the Old Fashioned Christmas Celebration!

Make sure that your name and phone number are on the back of the card so you may be contacted if you win.

Don’t worry about the ticket price of your purchase…this promotion is to get people out and about, taking the time to visit at least 12 stores and/or restaurants, and purchasing what you can. It does not have to be expensive to count.

Have fun! Somehow, I know you’ll have a good time checking out all of the great spots this town has to offer.

Best of luck to you all! Thanks for continually supporting Emmaus…it’s YOU we need.

Dad’s a special guy. He checks the oil level in your car, kills the icky spider on your wall, and barbecues like a pro. Don’t forget him on his special day…because though he seems like the toughest guy in the world, a thoughtful gift from his kid is sure to melt his heart.

Remember when a “handmade gift” was a doodle of Dad on construction paper, complete with huge muscles and a goofy smile? Now that you’re grown, that may not go over so well. Our gallery carries beautifully handmade items, and though not made by you with blood, sweat, and crayon…he’ll appreciate the handcrafted beauty all the same.

No coupon is necessary for the discount…it’s an automatic percentage off at our register.

Thanks as always for supporting our gallery and the amazing local talent that we have the pleasure of representing. Keep in mind that our merchandise is always changing because our super-creative artisans are always hard at work…so if you haven’t taken a peek in a while, it’s worth stopping by to say hello and to see what’s new.

We first wanted to pass on our heartfelt sympathies to the friends and family of David Heard. Though we had never met David, his mission to give others symbols of hope in the form of a beautiful origami crane has inspired us greatly.

Our paper folding event that was planned for this Sunday, February 13th from 11am-2pm will still be taking place. We will be folding as many cranes as we can in David’s name in order to be donated to the National Crane Project. Though it will be most appropriate for children ages 7-14, all are welcome. THIS IS A FREE EVENT…paper and snacks will be provided, but any paper donations would be greatly appreciated. Our talented origami artisan, Karen Gualtieri, will be here to demonstrate folding for those who are beginners.

Come and join us to learn the Japanese art of paper folding and to pass on cranes of hope to pediatric cancer centers all around the country. We hope to see you there.

To learn more about David and his heroic efforts, refer to the articles below.

As we’re nearing the end of April and peope are really starting to enjoy visiting the town, that can only mean one thing…the Emmaus Farmer’s Market is about to begin! Held in the KNBT Bank parking lot (right across the street from us!) from 10am-2pm every Sunday until Thanksgiving, the Farmer’s Market has proven to be quite a happening place. In fact, one may find it difficult on Sundays to drive through the Main Street without stopping multiple times for families crossing the street in order to get their fresh produce (don’t let that scare you away because of parking, there are lots of spaces behind businesses that are always open). All Emmaus business owners are very excited when they see lots of people strolling around town, and the Farmer’s Market has certainly motivated tons of walkers to get out and about on Sundays!

Out of Our Hands will be adjusting our hours starting May 1st to be open every Sunday from 10am-2pm while the Market is going on. Stop by and browse our new inventory or just to say hello! We are looking foward to eventually offering some events and mini art projects for youngsters on Sundays…more info on that to come.

Our Sunday hours will be lasting until the end of the year (January 1st, 2011 is when we’ll make the switch back to our winter hours). We are looking foward to offering more shopping hours to our customers. We’ll see you soon!

In celebration of the Easter holiday, we are now offering 25% off our ornately decorated Pysanky Eggs! We carry standing and hanging eggs, all decorated by hand so that no two are alike. April 30th is the last day for this offer, so stop in today to see our gorgeous selection created by master Pysanky artist Donna Marie Yob.

A pysanka (or the plural form pysanky) is an eggshell decorated using a written-wax batik method. The egg yolk is carefully removed by blowing it out through a small hole in the shell. Using a stylus or pin-head, the artist “writes” out the design using bees wax and then dyes the tiny areas with many vibrant colors.

These eggs date back to pre-Christian times and were originally decorated with nature symbols to worship the Ukranian sun god and to celebrate rebirth during spring. With the acceptance of Christianity, the meaning behind Pysanky eggs was changed to celebrate Easter and the rising of Christ. Typical beeswax designs include flowers, fruit, geometric patterns, and Christian symbols.
